“Charlie! CHARLIE WAKE THE FUCK UP GODDAMNIT I NEED HELP!” My eyes shot open and I looked over to where he slept and he was gone. I grabbed my knife and ran down the hall where I saw him being dragged down the hall by that old decrepit bitch. I ran and grabbed the old whore by the neck, slamming her into the wall “EXPLAIN YOURSELF. NOW!” “Kill her.” I heard Chris mumble “I was ju-“before she could lie her way out of the situation I plunged my knife into her stomach. I grabbed his hand and helped him up “What happened?” I asked him as he stood “I awoke to the sound of our door opening, I looked and that old bitch had a crazy look in her eyes, mumbling something about ‘must feed.’” “Spooky” I said, handing him a beer I had stashed. “So she knocked you out and dragged you halfway down the hallway by the time I had got to you?” “She is stronger than she looks dude.”
“uuuuuuuh” hissed out the old hag’s mouth, her eyes were dead, I stabbed her head as many times as I wanted, it was dead about thirty stabs ago but I didn’t mind.“Bitch.” I said looking down, I spat on the corpse, I hadn’t felt this much disdain for an elderly since my old family reunions. “well what do we do now?” I asked, mad as hell “Well it’s pretty clear how they’ve been getting their food, so I think we should leave as fast as possible.” He said plainly, he was right of course, I just didn’t wanna admit it, this place would be so nice if it weren’t for the cannibalism. “You’re right, let’s go” I said hastily, going back to the room to get my supplies “get your stuff.”
We walked uneasily down the street, my mind was racing. There were eyes behind every window and a monster behind every door. Yet on the outside, it was just a simple neighborhood, no one would know until it was too late. It was harsh but it’s how these sick bastards get by, who am I to judge. Either way I was clutching my bass and ready to kill anyone who tried to stop me from leaving this cursed town. I looked over and Chris was just as ready, katana in hand. I can see the gate if I squint really hard, I didn’t want to wait another second, I had gone into a full sprint. I couldn’t get away from that inn fast enough, even Chris was having trouble keeping up as I jumped the fence. I slowed my pace to an uneasy stroll , Chris had caught up as we walked towards Tacoma.
It was silent for a long time as we walked past lines and lines of cars on the highway. Most of which still had their drivers, rotting in the cold, damp day. “Cannibals.” Chris said after what seemed like an eternity “We finally find someplace to settle down and their fucking cannibals.” He continued, clearly flustered “CaAAanaaAadaAAaa.” I antagonized him, out of sheer boredom mostly “shuUUuut uuuUUuup.” He replied, copying my inflections with a mocking tone. We reached what looks like the aftermath of a large explosion, there were pieces of car everywhere but there was a big black circle from where it happened. “Looks like a good place to camp.” I said “why don’t we just sleep in one of these cars when the time comes?” he pointed out, making me feel kinda foolish “true, plus its only noon either way.” I replied “exactly, let’s wait a while.”
Eventually it was dark again, we had been walking all day, I ached to the bone. We had made it to Tacoma, it was a strange, dangerous city when it was still inhabited and that hadn’t really changed. Looters could be seen even now, I guess destruction never really gets old. We found an old motel six and went into the main building and snagged a key, room sixteen, “sounds ritzy.” Chris remarked as we did. It was nice to have a room we could lock, it meant we wouldn’t have to do the usual “zombie proofing”, things like boarding the doors and windows. The walls were an ugly peach color, as were the beds; there was a corpse in the corner with a hole in his head. Four were dead at the entrance; it was clear what had happened there. We stepped over the four corpses one by one, the smell was awful but nothing was going to keep me up anymore, I passed out fast.
